This workshop is a deep dive into what dyslexia really is, where it came from, how it shows up and how to support it. We will unpick misconceptions and reframe our understanding of dyslexia.

This session will not only provide dyslexics with a better understanding of how their brain works, but will also enable themselves and everyone around them to better support dyslexia and create accessible environments. The workshops is a process that will shift participants from the deficit based thinking of dyslexia to an asset based approach.

You will gain:

  • Understanding of the Medical and Social Model of Disability
  • Clarity of the Neurodiversity umbrella and what dyslexia really is
  • Understanding how dyslexia became a disability, the barriers dyslexics face and the consequences this has.
  • What reasonable adjustments can be made to remove barriers and how to create accessible environment / practices
  • Top free and low-cost tools, Assistive Technology and management strategies to support dyslexics

About

Nikita is an Inclusion Specialist, with an academic background. The main focus of her work is on Disability and Neurodiversity. Being born with a birth deformity and diagnosed Dyslexic and ADHD, Nikita weaves in her lived experience to provide context and proof of best inclusion practices.
